Gallery del Sol is the result of a lifelong interest and enjoyment of the artistry of people everywhere. We are not professional artists and have limited formal training in the arts - fine or otherwise. But we do have a deep appreciation for the creative sprit that is found in each of us.

As professional webmasters, we have been fortunate to have had a number of art museums and associations as clients. Working with these wonderful organizations gave us an ongoing education in the fine arts and a deep appreciation for the professional artists of the world. Then, on a random trip to Mexico we were introduced to a different kind of creative expression - that of Folk Art, or "art of the people". Often without formal training, average people used their hands and available local materials to create functional and beautiful works of art. Pretty awe inspiring.
A few years past we made a move from "the booming suburbs" of Southern California to a rural town (yes, surprisingly Southern California still has a few rural areas). At a local craft show we were amazed to encounter so many talented American artisans - from quilters to potters to woodworkers. They came in all ages, shapes and sizes, and very few were professionals who plied their craft for a living. The consistent theme in our conversations with these gifted souls was this - they sold their works in order to pay for their supplies so that they could continue to create more works. This time in our own backyard - we encountered amazing Folk Art... art of the people.
So our wish for Gallery del Sol is to continue showcasing interesting Folk Art from near and far. We are not wholesalers and have no desire to be in the future. We will continue to share the treasures that we find, one at a time, and hope that you will enjoy them as much as we do.
