Each Huichol piece shown on Gallery del Sol is hand made in the classic tradition of the Huichol people. A base form is created from wood or clay and coated with a thin layer of beeswax. The artisan then presses the glass or plastic beads, one by one, into the beeswax, creating the unique patterns and symbols reflective of the Huichol culture.
This frisky frog rests on a clay, bisque fired leaf, has a whole for hanging, and features a prominent salamander pattern on his back, the Huichol symbol for "God of Rain".
